Danita Underwood Ryan was born in Toledo, Ohio to Mr. Jimmy and Eloise Underwood on August 1, 1959. She is the mother of 4 daughters and the wife of Elder Johnny M. Ryan, who works alongside her in the ministry and community.
Danita was educated thru the Shelby County School System and later further her education thru Bessemer Technical College and Jeff State to pursue a degree in Horticulture. While furthering her education, she worked for the City of Birmingham, as a Horticulture Operations Manager and then later retired after 30 years of service.
Danita Ryan served in ministry under her father, Overseer Jimmy Underwood Sr. for many years after God filled her with the Holy Ghost. She became an avid student of God’s Word. She served over the missionary department and became a witness for Christ! Later she served under Bishop Rodney Brown for 7 years. Under his leadership, Danita operated in several capacities in the church and also preached her first sermon, “A Prepared Place for You and I.” After serving faithfully under Bishop Brown’s leadership, God allowed Minister Ryan to know that her work was complete. Minister Ryan was lead to further her ministry under Bishop John Redmon where she was active in the ministry. She worked with the Prison Ministry, served as Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School, also worked alongside Co-Pastor Annette Redmon assisting her in any capacity needed.
As Minister Ryan continued under the leadership of Bishop John Redmon, God was preparing her to become a pastor. She continued under the leadership for five years and after the preparation period was over, Bishop John Redmon ordained her.
In September 2009, Soldiers of the Cross Ministries was birthed. The first service was held in her home. After one year, the church was moved to its present location. God has allowed the church to continue to be fruitful since it’s birthing. 3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prosper.
After God blessed Soldiers of the Cross Ministry with a wonderful sanctuary and facility, the vision of the ministry began to speak expressly. Programs were developed to empower the people to get wealth thru knowledge. The education department for Pre-K and after-school tutoring was implemented. The nonprofit organization, Alliance Community Development was birth and it became active in having financial and homeowners workshops and seminars. Recently God has blessed the non-profit organization with a resource center to be able to serve in a greater capacity. “A Special Place” was designed to help in locating housing for single parents and children. Pastor Danita is also a board member of “Jesus Works Trust Ministry”, which consists of eight ministries that repair, build and give homes to those in need in the Shelby County area.
Pastor Danita Ryan is a servant of God willing to work to be a blessing to God’s people. She preaches, teaches and demonstrates the word of God by the life she lives. She loves all of God’s people because God spoke to her that His people will come in all shapes, forms, and fashions of life, but they will be a people with A God-Given Identity!
